Get Ready for Work is a programme provided for young people aged 16 to 19 years old. It is designed to help, encourage and support young people into training, education and employment.

The primary focus of The S Word is based on vocational skills training. This is in the form of food preparation, cooking, health and safety and a variety of other skills necessary for working in a kitchen. Front of house skills will also be included in this part of the training. This part of the training programme is delivered by a qualified chef and is designed to develop the young people's understanding of the hospitality industry and the choices available to them.

The secondary focus is around employability skills. This is delivered by support workers on an individual and group basis. The young people participate in a variety of sessions focused on enhancing their chances of being successful in future jobs or training. These include interview techniques, filling in application forms and looking at realistic options for them in the future.

The aim is for the young people to then begin an eight week placement with the long term goal of gaining employment or going on to study further.
